Who Is Allah?

Baby Mo

Baby Mo asks, "Umi, who is Allah?" So Umi takes him on a treasure hunt — to find the signs of Allah all around them.

One calm afternoon, Baby Mo gazed at the sky through the window. Then he asked in a small voice, "Umi… who is Allah? Why can't I see Him?"

Umi smiled and knelt beside him. "What a wonderful question, dear. Come, let's play a game. A treasure hunt — to find the signs of Allah."

Baby Mo jumped up. Treasure!

"First sign," said Umi. "Close your eyes and turn your face to the window."

Baby Mo shut his eyes. Warm sunlight stroked his cheeks. "It's warm, Umi…"

"Who made the sun that warm just for you?" whispered Umi.

"Allah," Baby Mo answered softly, beginning to understand.

"Second sign." Umi handed him a slice of apple. Baby Mo took a bite — crunch! — sweet and fresh. "Who put the sweetness inside the apple?"

"Allah!" said Baby Mo, surer this time.

"Third sign." Umi pressed Baby Mo's tiny hand to his own chest. Something was beating there. Thump… thump… thump… "That's your heart, dear. Beating day and night without you telling it to. Who keeps it beating?"

Baby Mo's eyes went round. "Allah… made my heart?"

Umi nodded. "We can't see Allah with our eyes right now. But look — we can feel His kindness everywhere. In the warm sun, in the sweet apple, in a beating heart, and…" Umi hugged him tight, "…in a loving hug. Allah created it all, and Allah loves you so much."

Baby Mo went quiet, then beamed. It turned out the treasure wasn't gold. His treasure was this: wherever there is goodness, there is a gift from Allah.

That night, before sleep, Baby Mo whispered while hugging his pillow, "Thank you, Allah, for the sun, the apple, and Umi's hug."

Allah alone created us and loves us — and there is nothing at all like Him.

Now, go on a treasure hunt with your little one: find three good things today, then say together, "This is from Allah." 🌟
