The Mighty Little Ant

Baby Mo

A crumb falls from Baby Ais's plate. Then comes an ant — and a big lesson about strength, teamwork, and saying thank you.

Baby Mo and Baby Ais had just finished eating. Their plates were nearly clean — except for one bread crumb that had fallen to the floor.

Baby Ais was about to sweep it up, but Baby Mo cried, "Wait! Look!" A tiny ant came up to the crumb. So tiny, smaller than a fingernail. Then — hup! — the ant lifted the crumb, many times the size of its own body, and started carrying it away.

"Whoa!" Baby Mo and Baby Ais gasped together. "So strong!"

Abi, sipping his tea, watched too. "Did you know," he said, "an ant can lift things far heavier than its own body. Imagine if you, Mo, could lift a car over your head — that's about how mighty an ant is!"

Baby Mo immediately tried to lift a chair, and… couldn't. He laughed. "The ant wins!"

They followed the ant. It turned out it wasn't alone. There was a line of other ants, walking neatly one by one, greeting each other with their antennae. "They work as a team," said Abi. "Not a single ant says, 'ah, that's not my job.' They all help carry food for their big family."

Baby Ais crouched down close and whispered politely to the ant, "Thank you for cleaning up the crumb." Baby Mo giggled, but secretly nodded along.

"And listen to this," said Abi, his voice turning gentle. "In the Qur'an there's a chapter called An-Naml — meaning 'The Ant'. It tells of an ant that saw Prophet Sulaiman's army coming. The ant quickly told its friends, 'Get into your homes, so you won't be trampled!' It protected its friends. And Prophet Sulaiman — who could understand animal speech — smiled when he heard it."

"A kind ant," whispered Baby Ais.

"Now," said Abi, "we too were just given a filling meal. It's only right we copy that grateful heart. Come, let's thank Allah."

So they recited, slowly, the du'a after eating:

Alhamdulillahilladhi at'amana wa saqana wa ja'alana muslimin. — All praise is for Allah who fed us and gave us drink, and made us Muslims.

After that, Baby Ais carefully placed one more little crumb near the line of ants. "This is for you," she said. "Sharing feels nice."

The mighty little ant carried on its journey, taking that small gift home — strong, hard-working, and never forgetting to team up.

Amazing, isn't it, such a tiny creature. Masha'Allah. 🐜
