Travel is a special time: a traveller's dua is among those readily answered. (Tirmidhi.) On holidays or trips home, turn each stage of the journey into a moment to teach your child to mention Allah's name.
1. Before leaving home
Teach the dua for leaving home — "Bismillah, tawakkaltu 'alallah…" — so your child gets used to relying on Allah from the first step.
2. Boarding a vehicle
When getting into a car, train, or plane, read the dua for boarding ("Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha…"). See also the dua for safe travel.
3. The travel dua (safar)
For long journeys, there is the safar dua asking for goodness, piety, and ease on the road. Children can simply say "ameen" at first, then slowly memorize it.
4. Stopping somewhere new
Arriving at a hotel or rest stop, read the dua for stopping: "A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq" — seeking protection from any harm in that place.
5. Returning home safely
On the way back, say the dua for returning with a grateful heart. Close the journey the way you opened it: with Allah.
Tips for memorizing with kids
- Pick one dua per trip — not all at once.
- Read it aloud; let the child echo the final phrase.
- Praise every effort, not only perfect results.
