Quraysh
قُرَيْش
Meaning: The Tribe of Quraysh
About the blessings of safety and provision Allah gave the Quraysh tribe — and their duty to be grateful.
لِإِيلَافِ قُرَيْشٍ
Li-iilaafi quraysy
For the familiarity of the Quraysh,
إِيلَافِهِمْ رِحْلَةَ الشِّتَاءِ وَالصَّيْفِ
Iilaafihim rihlatasy-syitaa-i wash-shayf
their familiarity with the journey of winter and summer,
فَلْيَعْبُدُوا رَبَّ هَٰذَا الْبَيْتِ
Falya'buduu rabba haadzal-bayt
let them worship the Lord of this House (the Ka'bah),
الَّذِي أَطْعَمَهُمْ مِنْ جُوعٍ وَآمَنَهُمْ مِنْ خَوْفٍ
Alladzii at'amahum min juu'in wa aamanahum min khawf
who has fed them, saving them from hunger, and secured them from fear.
Tafsir for Children
The Quraysh were protected because the Ka'bah was among them. They could trade safely to Yemen (winter) and Syria (summer). Allah reminds them: be grateful by worshipping Him. For children: the two most basic blessings — food and safety — come from Allah. Not by accident, not entirely by our own effort.
When to recite
When praying for safe travel. Teaching children gratitude for things often taken for granted.
