Who Makes the Rain?

Baby Mo

As the rain falls, Baby Mo presses his face to the window. "Umi, who sends the rain?" Then he sees for himself how rain is Allah's mercy.

The first drop fell โ€” tap. Then tap-tap-tap, and in no time the rain came down thick outside. Baby Mo and Baby Ais pressed their noses to the window glass.

"Umi! Who sends down all this rain?" asked Baby Mo.

"Allah, dear," said Umi. "Allah drives the clouds, then sends rain from the sky. And do you know what? Rain is one of the signs of Allah's mercy."

"Mercy? But it gets all muddy," said Baby Mo with a little pout.

"Let's go see where the rainwater goes," Umi invited.

They put on raincoats and stepped onto the porch. Baby Mo held up his hands and caught the cool, fresh drops. He watched the water flow and soak the soil, then looked at his mung-bean pot โ€” the leaves looked greener and fresher, as if drinking happily.

"See," said Umi. "Without rain, plants wilt, rivers dry up, and we'd have no water to drink. Through one rainfall, Allah gives a drink to flowers, trees, animals, and people โ€” all at once."

Baby Mo's eyes went round. "So rain is a gift for all creatures?"

"Exactly. That's why when it rains, we pray: 'O Allah, make this a beneficial rain.'"

Baby Mo looked up at the grey sky, let one drop land on his cheek, then beamed. "Thank you, Allah, for giving my flowers a drink."

From that day on, Baby Mo no longer pouted at the rain. He knew that behind those drops was a mercy coming down from the sky.

Allah sends water down from the sky, and with it gives life to the barren earth.

Now, at the next rain, invite your little one to catch a drop in their hand and pray, "O Allah, a beneficial rain." ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒฑ
