Where Do We Go When We Sleep?

Baby Mo

Under the blanket, Baby Mo asks, "Umi, where do we go when we sleep?" And he learns that sleep is a gift of rest — and morning is the gift of a new day.

It was late. The bedroom light was dim, and stars peeked through the curtains. Baby Mo pulled the blanket up to his chin and asked, "Umi, where do we go when we sleep? Why don't I remember anything?"

Umi sat on the edge of the bed. "What a deep question, dear. Here's how it is: every night, Allah gives us a gift called rest. Our body, tired from the whole day, gets to rest, and Allah watches over us all night long."

"Allah watches me… even when I'm asleep?"

"Always. Allah never gets drowsy and never sleeps. When your eyes are closed, He still keeps you safe." Umi stroked his hair. "Sleep is a little like being placed somewhere safe for keeping. Then morning comes, our eyes open again, and that… is like the gift of a brand-new life."

Baby Mo thought about it. "So every morning I get a gift?"

"Yes. That's why when you wake, we say thank you: 'Alhamdulillah, the One who gave me life after taking it.' Now, before we're placed in safekeeping, let's read the sleeping dua."

Together they whispered the dua before sleep. Baby Mo closed his eyes tight, feeling warm and safe, as if hugged from every side.

"Rest well, champ," whispered Umi. "See you in a new morning."

The next morning, light slipped softly through the window. Baby Mo opened his eyes, stretched his arms, and — he remembered. With a sleepy smile he said, "Alhamdulillah… I got a new day again!"

It is Allah who takes our souls to rest at night and wakes us in the morning.

Now, close the day with your little one with the sleeping dua, and open the morning with one phrase: "Alhamdulillah, a new day!" 🌙⭐
