In front of the mirror, the two of them

The twins stared at the mirror and laughed. Umi used the moment for a beautiful du'a.
Baby Mo and Baby Ais stood before the mirror, pointing at their reflections, laughing. They don't quite grasp it's themselves yet. Umi sat behind them and joined the reflection.
I whispered the mirror du'a: "O Allah, You have made my form good, so make my character good too." Then I told them: "Look, Allah made Mo and Ais this lovely. Now we ask for lovely hearts too."
The mirror teaches a child to look outward; this du'a teaches them to care about inward. Umi wants them to grow up knowing a face is a gift, but character is a choice — and the second matters far more.
O Allah, as You have beautified my form, beautify my character.
They just laughed at their reflections. But Umi planted one sentence: pretty and handsome are from Allah; kindness is what we work for.
