The night of Nisfu Sha'ban (the 15th night of Sha'ban) is widely observed in Indonesia. So children grow with a sound understanding, it's important to present it honestly and in balance regarding the evidence.
What is the status of its narrations?
The virtue of Nisfu Sha'ban appears in several narrations, but most are graded weak or disputed by hadith scholars; some scholars accept them via corroboration. What is agreed: there is no authentic special prescribed worship (a specific prayer or recitation with a set count) for that night.
A balanced stance
- It's fine to increase general worship that is encouraged at any time: du'a, istighfar, voluntary prayer, and charity.
- Avoid baseless special rituals — a fixed number of units, particular recitations, or specific beliefs tied uniquely to this night.
- Use Sha'ban per the clear sunnah: increasing voluntary fasts as preparation for Ramadan.
For children
Teach the sound core: doing good is praiseworthy in any month, and we follow the Prophet's ﷺ clear example. This builds the habit of good deeds while holding to evidence.
