Al-Ikhlas
الْإِخْلَاص
Meaning: The Purity of Faith
Four short verses that answer the most fundamental question: who is Allah? The Prophet ﷺ said its value equals one-third of the Qur'an.
قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ
Qul huwallaahu ahad
Say: "He is Allah, the One."
اللَّهُ الصَّمَدُ
Allaahus-samad
Allah, the Eternal, on Whom all depend.
لَمْ يَلِدْ وَلَمْ يُولَدْ
Lam yalid wa lam yuulad
He neither begets nor is born.
وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لَهُ كُفُوًا أَحَدٌ
Wa lam yakul-lahu kufuwan ahad
And there is none comparable to Him.
Tafsir for Children
Al-Ikhlas teaches four things about Allah: (1) He is One, nothing like Him, (2) everything depends on Him while He needs nothing, (3) He is no one's child and has no children, (4) nothing is His equal — not the moon, not the sun, not anyone. The heart of tawhid in four verses.
When to recite
Before sleep with Al-Falaq and An-Nas. After obligatory prayers. As a daily tawhid teacher for children.
