Ad-Duha
Meaning: The Morning Hours
Revealed to comfort the Prophet ﷺ when he was sad — Allah never left him, and won't leave us.
Wadh-dhuhaa
By the morning brightness,
Wal-laili idzaa sajaa
and by the night when it grows still,
Maa wadda'aka rabbuka wa maa qalaa
Your Lord has not forsaken you, nor does He despise you.
Wa lal-aakhiratu khairul-laka minal-uulaa
And the Hereafter is better for you than the first life.
Wa lasaufa yu'thiika rabbuka fatardhaa
And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied.
Alam yajidka yatiiman fa-aawaa
Did He not find you an orphan and give you refuge?
Wa wajadaka dhaallan fahadaa
And He found you lost and guided you,
Wa wajadaka 'aa-ilan fa-aghnaa
And He found you poor and made you self-sufficient.
Fa-ammal-yatiima falaa taqhar
So as for the orphan, do not oppress him.
Wa ammas-saa-ila falaa tanhar
And as for the one who asks, do not repel him.
Wa ammaa bini'mati rabbika fahaddits
And as for the favor of your Lord, proclaim it.
Tafsir for Children
Revelation once paused for a while, and people mocked the Prophet ﷺ that Allah had abandoned him. He was deeply saddened. Then this surah came: Allah hasn't left you or despised you — remember how He cared for you as an orphan. For children: when you feel sad or alone, remember — Allah is always there and loving. And when blessed, don't be proud: be kind to orphans and those in need.
When to recite
When a child is sad or feels left out. Part of Juz 'Amma memorization.
