Story draft for the Baby Mo book
What Is the Qur'an?

Baby Mo watches Abi hold a book so carefully. "Umi, what book is that? Why is it so special?"
Baby Mo watched Abi wash his hands, then take a book down from a high place, set it on a small cushion, and open it ever so gently โ like holding something very precious.
"Umi," Baby Mo whispered, "what book is that? Why is Abi so careful?"
"That's the Qur'an, dear," said Umi. "The Qur'an is no ordinary book. It is the word of Allah โ words from Allah Himself, for all of us. Like a letter of love and guidance, so we know how to live well."
"Words from Allah?" Baby Mo's eyes went round. "For me too?"
"For everyone. No human being could ever make a book as beautiful as this. That's why we honour it."
"May I hold it?" Baby Mo asked hopefully.
"Yes, in a good way." So Umi guided him. First, Baby Mo washed his hands clean. Then with both hands, slowly, he held the Qur'an like holding a small, delicate bird.
Umi recited one short verse in a lovely voice. Baby Mo listened, then echoed it softly. The words felt beautiful on his tongue, even though he didn't understand them all yet. He repeated it once more, and Umi smiled proudly.
When the reading was done, Baby Mo closed the Qur'an, then โ without being asked โ kissed it gently and placed it back up high and clean.
"Umi," he said, "I want to learn to read the Qur'an properly, so I can understand all of it."
Umi hugged him. "Masha'Allah. Did you know, the one who learns the Qur'an and teaches it is among the very best of people? For every single letter you read, Allah gives a reward."
Baby Mo's eyes sparkled. So even every little letter was precious.
The best of you are those who learn the Qur'an and teach it.
Now, have your little one listen to one short verse, then echo it. Begin with clean hands and a happy heart. ๐
