Dhul-Qa'dah is the eleventh month of the Hijri calendar and one of the four sacred months honored by Allah — Qur'an, At-Tawbah: 36. In sacred months, Muslims are urged to avoid conflict and do more good.
Learning peace from Hudaybiyyah
According to sirah, in Dhul-Qa'dah of 6 AH came the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah — when the Prophet ﷺ chose peace even though the terms felt hard. That peace opened the way to great good. Children learn: choosing peace and patience is not a sign of losing.
Lessons for children
- Self-restraint. Not answering bad with bad.
- Patience. Good sometimes comes after we wait.
- Loving peace. Making up with a friend after a quarrel is courage.
A simple practice at home
When siblings quarrel, make it a "little Hudaybiyyah": who will give way first for the sake of peace? Help with sibling manners and the dua when angry.
